Graeme Wood

Graeme Wood, senior lecturer in Fluids and Structural Dynamics, has moved on at the end of March 2007. Graeme has been one of the best and most popular lecturers for the last few years. Most of our recent graduates will fondly remember his unique mix of Scottish humour and engineering nous, which helped them on the road to understanding fluid mechanics.
Graeme has also been a major force in forging links between the University and industry. Through Wind Engineering Services, Graeme has continued the School's tradition of providing expert technical advice to engineers around the globe. Some of Graeme's most notable work was related to the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. His novel methods of wind analysis saved many tonnes of steel in the roof structure, and he played a significant part in the safe operation of the aerial elements of the opening and closing cermonies.
Graeme can be summed by one of his most recent research presentations at an International Wind Engineering Conference in Scotland last year. The rather tongue in cheek topic on the stability of portaloos contained his usual amount of humour, but was well founded on engineering fundamentals.
Thanks Graeme - you will be missed!
