Sydney Uni Live: Courses and Careers Day: Saturday 30 August 2008

On Saturday August 20 2008, you are invited to Sydney Uni Live!, an open day for future students and their families.

If you are interested in studying at The University of Sydney, you are invited to explore our campus and discover what life at Sydney is really like.

Sydney Uni Live! gives future students and their families the opportunity to find out about our courses and student services by talking to students and staff, and attending mini lectures and talks, a host of displays and information sessions for parents.

Find out what it's like to be a student here - from courses to career prospects, clubs & societies to student services and accommodation - we will ensure all of your questions are answered.

Engineering Activities on Courses and Careers Day

Visit us on Saturday 30 August to find out the answers to these questions and more ....

* What is engineering?
* What jobs do civil engineers do and what do they earn?
* What do the different choices mean (Civil, structural, project management?)
* What UAI will I need and what assumed knowledge is there?
* I like maths and physics - is engineering right for me?

The Tower of Steel
Take part in the construction of an 8 metre high tower of steel: The tower project is the centrepiece of our introduction to civil engineering issues such as loads, strength, design, construction, safety and teamwork.

Civil Engineering tours
Fancy seeing steel and concrete breaking? Or perhaps experience the wind tunnel that helped keep the Olympic flame alight in 2000? Our wind engineering, fluids, structures and geomechanics laboratories will be open all day. Meet in the PNR Courtyard, Engineering Precinct.

Engineering BBQ
From 12:30 pm to 2.30 pm The Faculty of Engineering & IT will be hosting a free BBQ organised by SUEUA (the Undergraduate Engineering Student Association). Come down to the Engineering Precinct for an opportunity to speak to some current students.

Other engineering activities will take place in the precinct in Chemical, Mechanical & Aeronautical, and Electrical and Information Engineering. Visit The Sydney Uni Live! site to find out full details of all activities
