Unsteady convection in semi-bounded domains

Destabilising convection in semi-bounded domains has many applications in industry and may be observed in several geophysical systems such as lakes and marginal seas. We are conducting turbulent DNS calculations on unsteady convection and looking at the time-response of both mean and fluctuating velocity. The response is interpreted via an analogy with electric circuit theory. This method allows the categorisation of various components of the dynamic response in terms of inductive and capacitive behaviour.
