Free-Surface & Smart Fluids Behaviour In Tuned Liquid Dampers
This project is concerned with the development and design of light weight and environmental friendly damping devices. We utilise the energy from waves in tanks and explore additional energy extraction from (1) submerged/surface piercing bluff-bodies, and (2) magnetic fields. Our free surface predictions are fully nonlinear. A systematic investigation of the importance of mode interactions are undertaken. Mesoscopic and continuum mechanics models as well as experimental results are compared. Some preliminary work on coupling the sloshing tank to the equation of motion of structures are also undertaken.
