Facilities
The following list outlines the facilities within Environmental Fluids at the University of Sydney. These facilities are used for teaching, research, and specialised contract research for industry.
- Large Area Fluids Laboratory – This facility houses all the major fluid mechanics equipment and apparatus within the School of Civil Engineering. The main individual facilities are listed below. Lab infrastructure includes a high head water storage tower, holding tanks, sump storage, large capacity pumping capabilities and supply network for large flow capacity experiments.
- Small flumes – Six small flumes with various dimensions are used for teaching and research.
- 30m Wind-Current-Wave flume – This facility will be built in 2006 and will support teaching, research and consulting activities. It has the unique capabilities to simulate the combined effects of wind, currents and waves. It will also be equipped with a towing facility.
- Recirculating water/air tunnel – Large capacity tunnel for either water or air experiments. Suitable for testing wind or water impact on various structures.
- Wind tunnels – Visit the wind engineering facilities page to read about about Wind Tunnel Facilities.
- Computational Fluid Dynamics – High-end computer facilities and CFD software for simulating flows in complex domains.
