Consulting Services

CASE’s professional consulting activities range from Civil to Mechanical Engineering. The main industries include the Civil (building and product), railway, automotive and aeronautical industries. Services are offered nationally and internationally to design and construction companies, product developers and producers. Clients include private companies and public offices including government departments. CASE’s range of activities fall under the following broad headings:

  • Prototype testing – R&D
The JW Roderick Materials & Structures Laboratory maintains a versatile range of servo-controlled actuators and test frames. It has facilities for applying static and cyclic loading to structures in a wide range of applications. Specialised test support and loading frames can be fabricated in the workshop adjacent to the laboratory as required. Typical tests include proof tests, ultimate strength tests and fatigue tests.
  • Calibration
The Centre calibrates and produces test certificates for industries relying on accurate instrumentation for their activities, notably the pre-stressing and jacking industries.
  • Design calculations
The Members of CASE contribute to national design standards through their research and serve on many of Standard Australia’s technical committees. Based on their intimate knowledge of structural design standards, they offer the capability to design structures and structural components, often of unusual and difficult structures. Design calculations for load tables and the alike, typically for new products, can also be produced.
  • Proof engineering
CASE offers to undertake independent checks of design calculations, often of large and unusual structures. The checks usually involve structural analysis and calculations to national and/or international design standards.
  • Consultancy advice
CASE provides guidance on the design of structures and products. Advice can be based on expert knowledge and may be combined with advanced computer analysis and structural testing.
  • Forensic investigation
The Centre offers the independent assessment of the cause of structural failure.
  • Expert witness services
Members of CASE can be called upon to give independent expert advice in legal proceedings
  • Computer software
CASE has developed a significant suite of software products for easier design, particularly related to steel products to AS 4100, as/NZS 4600, and other design codes. Specific software for new products can be developed.
