The Australian Steel Institute is Australia's premier technical information and marketing organisation representing companies and individuals involved in steel manufacture, fabrication, design and construction. ASI was established in 1962 and has over 4,000 members. It has a head office in Sydney, and offices in Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. State and regional committees co-ordinate local activities in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Hobart, Launceston, Newcastle and Wollongong.  The ASI is the result of the 2002 merger of the Australian Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) and the Steel Institute of Australia (SIA).
